APEC Beijing 2014.
We’ve all heard of it.
We’ve all seen the (awkward) pictures of ‘Uncle Xi’ and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe shaking hands.
And we’ve been witness to Putin’s attempt at flirting.
But what is it really all about?
The acronym of ‘APEC’ stands for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. It is an essential forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. This year Beijing takes its place as the host city.
APEC has 21 members, also known as member economies, which account for approximately 40 percent of the world’s population, approximately 55 percent of world GDP and about 44 percent of world trade.
For those who want to get a better grip of APEC, our friends at Tradegood have delved further into the purpose, goals and implications of the forum.
